About Dalavich and surrounding area

About Dalavich and surrounding areaThe village of Dalavich is first mentioned in records in 1649, though it is thought to long predate this. The forestry village as it is today was originally established by the Forestry Commission in 1952 and a number of locals earn their living from forestry to this day. It’s unsurprising, then, that most of the buildings are wooden.

Although it’s off the beaten track, you can still pick up some supplies or treat yourself to a cappuccino at the village shop and café. Perhaps linger a while and write a few postcards while you’re there (it’s also a part-time post office).

Other village amenities include a church and a social club within the community centre. So you can stroll across for a pint in the evening (or sample a local dram …). Bar meals are also available four nights a week in summer.

The village also hosted a primary school until it was closed in 1997 due to insufficient pupil numbers. The school building has now been renovated into The Old School self-catering accommodation.
